Another unit of the excellent Warfare Miniatures, infantry this time. (Click on the images for larger versions)
Continuing with the Jacobite theme I fancied a regiment with red coats and red cuffs (a slightly different red.) O'Neills seemed to fit the requirement and there was a flag usefully illustrated in the Mark Allen Wargames Illustrated article on the army of James II (although titled the French Army - Foreign Troops!) I found it quite fascinating that a Jacobite regiment would have a symbol now so associated with protestant Northern Ireland. I had a cunning plan to use an ultrafine marker pen to add the motto to the flags rather than trusting to my freehand painting skills. It worked okay until I dripped some water on the finished flag and all the ink ran - disaster! I then had to think carefully about varnishing this unit to stop the same thing happening again. My solution, to seal the flags with gloss lacquer before using my usual matt varnish. There was still a small amount of "bleed" but less than I had feared.
Just one small conversion in this unit, adding a hand with a sword to an officer figure with an open hand for a polearm or a colour pole. (The chap next to the pikemen.) Next up some more Jacobites or maybe some Dutchmen...
